About IBPS Clerk
IBPS Clerk recruits Single Window Operators (Clerical Cadre) for 11 Public Sector Banks. Selection is in two stages: Prelims and Mains — there is no interview for IBPS Clerk (interview was abolished post-2015). Final merit is decided by Mains marks alone. Around 25–30 lakh candidates apply each year for ~6,000–8,000 vacancies.
From 2017 onwards, IBPS revised the educational qualification from 12th-pass to graduation in any discipline. Clerks are recruited on All-India basis but allocated to a state at the time of application — and must serve in that state for a minimum lock-in period (usually 5 years). State-wise vacancy and merit list are separate.
Clerks join at Bank Clerk Scale (separate from PO scale) at basic ₹19,900 with periodic increments. After 6+ years of service, an internal promotion exam (Junior Management Grade Scale-I) makes the candidate an Officer (PO equivalent). Many bank Officers in PSBs are former clerks who promoted internally.
